the anime beginning
Kino Makoto enters the scene in episode #25, "Koisuru kairiki shoujo, Jupiter-chan," where a simple act of kindness begins the anime saga of Sailorjupiter.

Our beloved odango-headed heroine once again rushes off to school. Being the slightly flaky girl that she is, Usagi accidentaly runs into a group of less-than-friendly guys looking for revenge. Could this be the end of our beloved heroine? She cowers, fearing the worst when suddenly a tall brunette appears. Usagi watches in awe as this beautiful girl chases the enemies away. She tells Usagi to be more careful, then walks off, leaving the blonde staring in amazement. Suddenly snapping out of it, Usagi realizes that she is still late for school, and makes a mad dash down the street.

Later at school, Usagi sees the mysterious stranger again eating lunch all by herself. After a brief chat with Umino, she learns that the new girl's name is Makoto, and that rumor is she was expelled from her old school for fighting. Although advised by Umino to stay away, Usagi's curiousity gets the better of her. Drawn by her stomach, Usagi decides to spy onthe new girl. Makoto notices the blonde peering at her behind a row of bushes and invites her over. Usagi, trying her hardest to be polite, asks the girl about herself. Makoto warmly welcomes Usagi to sit by her and offers her a bite of her bento. Usagi says that Makoto's mother is a wonderful cook, but Makoto explains that she made her lunch herself. The two click instantly and become friends.

After school, Usagi invites Makoto to come with her to the Crown Game Center, where she meets Rei, Ami, and Luna (Usagi had hoped to introduce Makoto to Motoki, but he wasn't working that afternoon). In a corner of the arcade, Makoto spots a cute young man whom everyone calls Crane Game Joe. He is winning stuffed animals from the crane game one after another and drawing quite a crowd of onlookers. Makoto mentions to Usagi that he reminds her of someone she used to know.

After a few moments lost in day dreaming, Makoto follows the boy outside. She is puzzled to see Zoisite standing there, making threats and trying to draw something from Joe. Makoto tells him to back off and poises, ready to fight if need should come. She strikes at Zoisite, missing him the first time, but hitting his cheek the second time when she throws her rose earring. He is furious at her for scarring his face. Deciding to try again later, Zoisite disappears, leaving Joe stooped over clutching his chest.

Although he acts as if everything is fine, Makoto still follows him around town, continuously asking if he is all right. After a brief chat with Usagi, Makoto comes to the conclusion that he must be shy and that he really does like her. Usagi encourages her to walk over and talk to him. Finally, Joe agrees to talk with her a little at a coffee shop. Things begin to look up for Makoto; Joe begins to act much nicer, thanks her for warding off Zoisite, and reveals to her his secret of retrieving toys from the machine: with a special force that enables him to make objects levitate. He demonstrates by lifting an ash tray. Makoto mentions to him that it is cheating, but he doesn't seem to care.

Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, Zoisite comes up again, this time determined to retrieve Joe's crystal. Still angry that Makoto struck him, Zoisite blasts her and in the process, Joe runs away. Mad that he could just leave her in a fatal situation, Usagi confronts Joe on it. Continuing to run he yells over his shoulder, "That big girl isn't my type!" Usagi returns to Makoto making sure she is all right. With a melancholy look upon her soft face, Makoto says, "He said the same thing to me..."

Once again, Zoisite traps Joe and begins to draw something from Joe's chest. Joe screams as a nijizuishou crystal appears from his chest and is snatched by a pleased Zoisite. Hearing Joe's cries, Usagi transforms into Sailormoon. Releasing the nijizuishou transforms Joe into a powerful youma, and Zoisite commands him to get rid of Sailormoonr; he then disappears. As she is known to do in frightening situations, Sailormoon begins to look for a place to hide. Desperate to protect Usagi, Makoto grabs the monster, heaves him above her head, and throws him. A glowing symbol flashes across her forehead which Luna recognizes as the planetary symbol of Jupiter. Realizing that the fourth senshi has been discovered, Luna throws Makoto a transformation pen and tells her to use it. Makoto, a little puzzled at the sight of a talking cat, decides to take her advice and grabs the pen. Lifting it above her head, she yells out those four magic words, "Jupiter Power, Make Up!," and is transformed into Sailorjupiter. Wasting no time, she performs her Supreme Thunder attack. While the youma is recovering from the shock, Luna gives Sailormoon a brand new wand used for restoring monsters to their original human forms. Yelling the phrase "Moon Healing Escalation," Sailormoon heals Joe of his dark side; he lies on the ground for a few moments recovering.

Finally Makoto has found her destiny: the beautiful sailor-suited fighter of the planet Jupiter...
